Why I Changed My Boudoir Photography Name to Shades of Grain

Over the past few years, my relationship with photography has changed in a meaningful way. That evolution is the reason behind my recent boudoir rebrand — from Dark Moon Boudoir to Shades of Grain.

This wasn’t a marketing decision or a desire to start over. It was a natural shift that came from slowing down, reconnecting with my craft, and rediscovering my love for film photography.

How Film Photography Changed My Approach to Boudoir

Shooting film altered the way I see — not just light and composition, but people.

Film photography asks you to slow down. You can’t overshoot. You can’t immediately review every frame. Instead, you have to trust your instincts, the moment, and the connection in front of you.

That slower pace changed my entire approach to boudoir photography. Sessions became quieter, more intentional, and more grounded in presence rather than performance. I began focusing less on directing every detail and more on allowing natural expression to unfold.

There’s a softness to film that feels honest. Grain instead of perfection. Depth instead of polish. Emotion instead of immediacy.

That feeling is what Shades of Grain represents.

Shot in black and white 35mm film.

What Shades of Grain Means

The name Shades of Grain reflects my love for film photography, but it also speaks to something deeper.

Boudoir isn’t about a single definition of beauty. It’s about nuance — the subtle shifts in confidence, vulnerability, strength, and softness that exist within each person. Film captures those in a way that feels timeless and true to me.

This rebrand represents:

  • Slowing down

  • Trusting the process

  • Honoring imperfection

  • Creating images that feel intimate, grounded, and real

Film or Digital Boudoir Sessions: You Have a Choice

While film has become a central part of my creative process, I want to be very clear: I still offer digital boudoir photography.

Some clients love the immediacy and flexibility of digital. Others are drawn to the intentional rhythm of film. Neither is better — they are simply different experiences.

What matters most to me is that your boudoir session feels aligned with you. Whether you prefer film, digital, or a blend of both, the heart of my work remains the same.

What Hasn’t Changed

Although the name has changed, my purpose has not.

I continue to create boudoir imagery that feels:

  • Safe

  • Empowering

  • Intimate

  • Respectful

  • True to who you are

The rebrand simply reflects the way my work has matured — quieter, more intentional, and more connected to the experience as a whole.

A New Chapter, The Same Intention

Shades of Grain isn’t about reinventing myself. It’s about honoring the direction my work naturally moved in.

If you’ve followed my work before, thank you for being here. If you’re new, welcome. I’m grateful you’ve found your way into this space.

I’ll be sharing more soon.
